2023-24 School Year News
LOWVILLE ACADEMY TO OPEN 216THYEAR
Under the direction of superintendent Rebecca Dunckel-King, Lowville Academy will open its doors for the 216th straight year on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 for the first day of school. All students in grades PK-12 will begin the 2023-2024 school year with a full day of school. The class of 2037, the entering Pre-Kindergarten group, will begin their first day of formal education, while their older counterparts in the Class of 2024 begin their final year of school. Student transportation and cafeteria operations will run on a regular schedule.
In the year ahead breakfast will be $1.00 and lunch will be $2.00. Breakfast serving will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria. Free/reduced price meals are available via application. Contact the district office or refer to the September district newsletter for additional information or assistance regarding this process.
Transportation for all students will begin on Tuesday, September 5 at the usual time. The bus students should plan to be picked up at approximately the same time as last year. Should any family need information or assistance, please contact Transportation Supervisor Amy Green at 315-376-7212.
Motorists are reminded to exercise extreme caution at the beginning of the school year. The reappearance of school buses and children walking to and from school are added distractions and necessitate the utmost care by those behind the wheel. The safety of our students is our most important priority. In addition to heightened awareness, drivers will need to observe all school speed zones which exist on adjacent streets as well as in the school driveways and parking areas. There will also be a crossing guard on North State Street to help students and other pedestrians safely cross in front of the school at the beginning and end of the school day. Please pay attention to the following traffic directives for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond:
- Drivers will not be permitted to park or stand in the fire/emergency access lane of the school driveway from North State Street to Davenport Place. Parking is prohibited at any time in this fire/emergency access lane. You will be asked to move your vehicle if you park in a prohibited area.
- There will be a “Right Turn Only” sign at the exit of the school parking lot from Davenport Place to N. State Street. You may not make a left hand turn between specific hours when dropping off or picking up.
- Parents who wish to drop off and/or pick up their children should do so in the State Street/Davenport Place loop. The Trinity Avenue loop will be used strictly for bus traffic.
The 216th year of Lowville Academy promises to once again be an exciting and enjoyable year for all students. With the continued cooperation and assistance of the greater school community, it will be another safe year as well.
